... our cozy kitten-esque ballerina by day, nurse by night.

Larissa “Lara” Koffskey was born and raised in Greenville, SC, and began her dance training at age 6 at the School of Carolina Ballet Theatre, where she trained under Barbara Selvy, Hernan Justo, and Anita Pacylowski Justo. She attended numerous summer intensive training programs, including The Rock School for Dance Education in Philadelphia, North Carolina School of the Arts, American Ballet Theatre in New York City, and The Art of Classical Ballet in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Upon completing high school, Lara joined Carolina Ballet Theatre as a professional dancer and was given many exciting opportunities including an international tour to Uruguay and a chance to work with acclaimed choreographer Alonzo King. Her roles with the company include “Clara” and the “Sugar Plum Fairy” in The Nutcracker, “Kitri” in Don Quixote, and the Peasant Pas De Deux in Giselle. During her time with the company, she also instructed ballet school students in ballet, jazz, and tap. After spending a few months in New York City pursuing a dance career in 2013, Lara decided it was time for a change and took a new path with a focus in teaching dance.

From professional ballet to nursing school, Lara is no stranger to taking on massive challenges with grace and poise. Her detailed cues drawing from her years of movement training make her barre classes at @barre3greenville , dance classes at @dancearts_adult_dance , and her aerial yoga classes at MAYA truly special. “I love aerials because it is an amazing workout, allows me to incorporate my background in ballet, and is so much fun!" Already a natural at spinning and bending, Lara found the upper body strength required in aerials a challenge at first. So when she teaches, she loves "sharing information with students and seeing them progress and accomplish new goals,” just as she did.

Lara received her aerial yoga certification with Levity Aerial Yoga, and her aerial fitness and dance training at MAYA with Kelly. Although she isn’t in the studio much now, due to nursing school demands, it is always a treat when she comes in to sub, all wrapped up in a blanket three times her size and carrying a mug of tea.

Outside her home studios and school, she is a creature of nature, squeezing in a hike or bike anytime she can. Her other passions include reading, “EATING,” and going to breweries and concerts with friends.
